Ramadan’s Talking!

This is the story of Ramadan, The month that cannot be outdone, Put aside all the fun, Fasting from dawn to the set of sun

Ramadan said:

“Oh people! Don’t be sad what more mad
From children, mum and dad
“I’m here, you should be glad

Ramadan begged, “Make full use of me, please”*
Since eleven months you had your tease
Just focus and increase your devotion
That is the Ramadan’s attraction

But, people easily lost track
They disagreed and widen the crack
Eight or Twenty!
They just argue aplenty

We hear this often again and again
Ramadan is a month of gain
Unfortunately for some it is a month of pain
But for the obvious – the calculation is plain

A night equals a month of thousand**
That is way beyond reason
Eight or twenty isn’t the matter
Just gather and do your congregational prayer!

Another thing Ramadan observed
A unique phenomenon Ramadan doesn’t deserve
The attitude to shop till you drop
With ‘Ramadan Bazaar’ like mushroom it crops

“Oh People! When do you want to learn?”
Just a month please ignore your fleshy yearn
Focus on me – it’s my turn
Show me what can you churn?

Rasulullah (pbuh) treats me special
Twice he completed the recital***
Not to mention the last ten nights
Allah should be your sight****

“Oh People, take this opportunity
Increase your devotion with integrity
You won’t know it may be your last Ramadan to see
Just focus on your ibadah – and yes it’s free!

Footnotes

*Ibn 'Abbas narrates "that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) was the most generous person, and he would be at his most generous in Ramadan because Jibril would come to him every night and he would rehearse the Qur'an with him." (Sahih al-Bukhari, Eng. trans. 6/486)

** Al-Quran 97:1-5 “We have indeed revealed this (Message) in the night of Power: And what will explain to thee what the Night of Power is? The Night of Power is better than a thousand Months. Therein come down the angels and the Spirit by Allah's permission, on every errand: Peace! This until the rise of Morn!”

***Further, Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated from her father (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), who told her that Jibril would rehearse the Quran with him (in Ramadan) once every year, and he did so twice in the year of his death. (Bukhari 6/485)

**** Imam Bukhari reports from 'Aishah that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) would tighten his waist-cloth (i.e. detach himself from his wives), spend the night in worship and awake his family, during the last ten nights of Ramadan.
